USER EXPERIENCE & ASSESSMENT LIBRARIAN

Primary Responsibilies:

  • Coordinating the assessment of the Radford University Libraries with respect to the effectiveness of current library spaces, perceptions of current library services, online content organization, & user perception of usability, accessibility, search functionality, accuracy, & currency in adherence to the best technical and professional standards.

  • Suggesting & advocating for data-driven changes devised in response to assessment results by collaborating with staff within & outside of Radford University, Radford University Carilion, & Radford University Libraries.

ONLINE LEARNING LIBRARIAN

Radford University Libraries
(formerly Carilion Clinic Health Sciences Libraries)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Used expertise in web design and web technologies to enhance the Library’s website and web-based tools.

  • Acted as the expert and liaison for all library information systems.

  • Continuously sought to make data-based improvements through interface usability studies and analysis of usage statistics.

  • Ensured that Library information systems are used appropriately and to their highest potential.

REFERENCE LIBRARIAN

Boston Public Library

​December 2014 - July 2016

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provided reference services to all 24 neighborhood branches throughout the city of Boston.

  • Answered detailed reference questions and educated patrons about the most effective resources (i.e. books, study materials, databases and other media) for their specific information needs.

  • Frequently oversaw and managed other staff, both individually and in small groups.

  • Planned and executed informative programming for library patrons of all ages.

DIGITIZATION SPECIALIST & PROJECT ARCHIVIST

Harvard Law School Library

August 2014 - February 2015*

(*grant-funded position)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Developed a series of best practices for the handling and repair of the documents.

  • Oversaw the digitization process & overall workflows for both rare, fragile and original documents from the Nuremberg Trials as well as more commonplace publications on legal precedent for the Free The Law project.

USER EXPERIENCE ANALYST

Dartmouth College

December 2013 - May 2014*

(*grant-funded position)

  • Developed and curated a collection of hundreds of images to be cataloged by users of the Metadata Games platform.

  • Collaborated with developers to re-design the games to guarantee maximum metadata output and the best user experience.

  • Participated in outreach to high-profile members of the library and information technology community to encourage collaboration and promotion.

  • Planned & executed a usability study to test the accuracy of user-generated metadata.

DIGITAL PROJECTS LIAISON

Boston Public Library

January 2012 - May 2012*

(*grant-funded postion)

  • Researched and located valuable books, historical documents, photographs, newspapers etc. in libraries throughout Massachusetts, then acquired said documents for free digitization services via a generous LSTA grant. 

  • Answered questions from any and all participating librarians about the care their books would receive, copyright issues etc.

VISITING SPECIAL COLLECTIONS FELLOW

Chawton House Library

August 2011*

(*travel grant-funded position)

  • Conducted research projects and designed research-oriented displays for the public.

  • Catalogued donations and made recommendations for library acquisitions.

  • Assisted with the creation of a digital archive of priceless and historic manuscripts.

  • Invigilated library fellows (duties included locating materials to assist research and answering any questions about the collection and/or specific texts.)

  • Led tours of the library for the visiting public.
